A new documentary from Gia Coppola titled superfans: screaming. crying. throwing up. — based on Maria Sherman's 2020 Larger Than Life: A History of Boy Bands from NKOTB to BTS — is on the way.
As reported by Deadline, the film will explore the rise of boybands and their fervent fandoms, diving "into the fangirl experiences, movements and markets of the '80s, '90s and 2000s, spotlighting the devoted girls, women and queer fans who have turned boy bands — including New Edition, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, One Direction and BTS — into multibillion-dollar franchises that dominate both the airwaves and pop culture phenomena."
Coppola will co-produce superfans: screaming. crying. throwing up. in partnership with Jason Bateman's production company Aggregate Films.
Coppola's last full-length film was 2020's comedy-drama Mainstream, starring Andrew Garfield and Maya Hawke. Previously, she's directed music videos for the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen, Yves Tumor and Blood Orange.
