George A. Romero's 'Day of the Dead' Is Becoming a TV Series

The themes of George A. Romero's Day of the Dead remain as relevant as ever in 2020, so it makes perfect sense we're now getting a TV spinoff inspired by the 1985 zombie classic.

Today Syfy confirmed it has ordered up a 10-episode series based on Day of the Dead. The series is being produced by Cartel Entertainment, with Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serving as writers and showrunners.

The TV series will tell the story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of a zombie takeover. Syfy describes it as an ode to Romero's classic film, though it hasn't so far shared much more info other than that.

The original film came with a very militaristic vibe, with almost the entire movie being set underground. It also famously explored the idea of zombie intelligence and memory, but so far, it's unclear if the Syfy show will follow suit.

At this point, the Day of the Dead TV series adds to two film remakes, the most recent of which arrived in 2018.

The news of the Day of the Dead TV series follows the announcement last year that Syfy would be developing a TV series based on Child's Play called Chucky.

At this point, the Day of the Dead TV series does not have a firm premiere date.
