FOX Is Planning a Crossover of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' and 'New Girl'

From The Simpsons vs. The Critic to, um, The Flintstones & WWE: StoneAge Smackdown, there's something strangely alluring about the pop culture crossover. Up next, a pair of live-action comedies will cross paths on FOX.

Specifically, the Zooey Deschanel-led world of New Girl will get a taste of Andy Samberg's wacky justice in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

At the Television Critics Association press tour, the network announced that the two shows will cross paths this fall. It's a perfect fit, since they both share FOX's Tuesday night timeslot as of this year.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Dan Goor said, "We're all huge fans of New Girl here at the Nine-Nine, and we're excited to see our characters interact and to work with their incredible writers and producers. And also to see what their craft services are like, compared to ours."

New Girl creator Elizabeth Merriweather added:

The crossover episode has historically been the artistic high point of any show that has dared to attempt it. Maybe you remember 'Blackout Thursday' on NBC, or even further back the infamous Alf/Gilligan's Island crossover of the late 1980s. [We] will proudly and humbly go where few shows have gone since the 1990s. We know we have big shoes to fill, and we look forward to disappointing everyone. There's a 50% chance Alf will also be in both episodes. But there's also a 50% chance that is a lie."

Both shows return to television on September 20, with the crossover expected to air on October 11.
