Facebook Makes Leap Into Premium TV Market with New Elizabeth Olsen Series

Facebook has been shelling out major money and partnering with various media companies to develop original episodic video content in the last year, and it now seems like the social media giant is setting its sights on higher brow shows.

Facebook has reportedly ordered 10 episodes of a new half-hour dramedy starring and executive produced by Elizabeth Olsen, which will stream on Facebook Watch. The project was initially developed at Showtime, but will now serve as Facebook's first foray into premium original content.

Deadline reports that Olsen will play a grieving young widow, who reconnects with a number of past relationships.

Previously titled Widow, the currently untitled show was created and written by Kit Steinkellner (Z: The Beginning of Everything), and Lizzy Weiss (Switched at Birth) will serve as the showrunner. James Ponsoldt (Master of None) has signed on to co-executive produce, and will also direct multiple episodes. Avy Kaufman is the casting director.

Additional producers include Robin Schwartz, Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf of Big Beach TV, and Cynthia Pett, Brad Petrigala and Jon Liebman of Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

"I couldn't be prouder of the group we have brought together for this show," Olsen said in a statement. "Kit's story has been near and dear to me for years and I can't wait to share our dark, funny, and complicated show with the world."
