There were audible groans and a handful of walkouts when Jonás Cuarón's pointed and viscerally violent thriller Desierto opened at TIFF earlier this year. The film still managed to land distribution, however, and now it's got a proper trailer for those who didn't catch it on the festival circuit.
Cuarón recently collaborated with his father Alfonso on the screenplay for Gravity. Here, he's crafted a similarly tense survival tale as a group of illegal immigrants are murdered in cold blood at the hands of a redneck vigilante. As the trailer demonstrates, it's as much an edge-of-your-seat thriller as it is a parable about nationalism.
Desierto stars Gael García Bernal and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The film hits theatres on March 4.
