De La Soul Do Battle for Their Beats on 'Teen Titans GO!'

A new episode will see the Titans help the group "save their music after it is stolen by an alien"

In an animated instance of art imitating life, De La Soul will fight for their music in a new episode of Teen Titans GO!.

An episode set to air on Cartoon Network tomorrow (February 20) will see the Titans "help De La Soul save their music after it is stolen by an alien."

As you'll see below in an accompanying teaser clip, the trio arrive at their studio only to have a giant alien siphon their sounds clean out of the building. Meanwhile, the teenage heroes geek out over seeing "the De, the La and the Soul" in the flesh as the trio try to stop the invader with a "sonic blast."

For the uninitiated, De La Soul have long battled former label home, Tommy Boy Records, over the ownership of their master recordings. In August 2019, the group shared that any future physical or digital issues of their Tommy Boy catalogue "will not see the light of day by way of our involvement or consent."

The trio's output for the label includes revered 1989 debut 3 Feet High and Rising, 1991's De La Soul Is Dead, 1993's Buhloone Mindstate, 1996's Stakes Is High, 2000's Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump and 2001's AOI: Bionix.

While we can't confirm if the alien's name is Tommy, the Teen Titans GO! episode is cleverly titled "Don't Press Play" after a hashtag De La Soul used in their 2019 statement.

De La Soul's most recent album remains 2016's and the Anonymous Nobody...
