Are you sick of the word "corona" yet? Us too, but we're about to say it a million more times. When coronavirus survivor Tom Hanks found out that a young boy named Corona was being bullied because of his name, the actor decided to type up a letter on his Corona brand typewriter, which he sent to the boy alongside the typewriter itself.
Was Hanks sipping a Corona while the whole thing went down? Hard to say. But the story started earlier this month when Corona DeVries from Queensland, Australia, wrote Hanks a letter explaining that he had been bullied in school because of his name.
Hanks decided to return the favour with a letter addressed to Corona:
Dear Friend Corona,
Your letter made my wife and I feel so wonderful! Thank you for being such a good friend — friends make friends feel good when they are down.
I saw you on TV, even though I was back in the USA already — and all healthy. Even though I was no longer sick, getting your letter made me feel even better. You know, you are the only person I've ever known to have the name Corona — like the ring around the sun, a crown.
I thought this typewriter would suit you. I had taken it to the Gold Coast, and now, it is back — with you. Ask a grown up how it works. And use it to write me back.
Signing the letter, he added, "You've got a friend in me."
