Color Out of Space director Richard Stanley has been dropped by the film's production company SpectreVision after allegations of domestic violence were recently levelled against the filmmaker.
Late yesterday (March 17), SpectreVision — the company co-founded by Elijah Wood — made the announcement, tweeting: "SpectreVision will no longer work with Richard Stanley. We are proud of the talented cast and crew behind Color Out of Space. Yet we are horrified by the charges against its director. We will be donating future revenue from the film to charities devoted to stopping domestic violence."

The allegations against Stanley come from Scarlett Amaris, who describes herself as Stanley's "long term life and creative partner." On March 16, she published a blog post stating she filed domestic violence charges against Stanley back in 2014.
She wrote: "I filed charges for Domestic Violence, Assault & Battery against Richard Stanley, my then long term life & creative partner in October, 2014, after he beat the shit out of me in our car parked behind the Banque Postale in Lavelanet, France when we were returning from a film festival in London. It was not the first time he had beaten me. In fact, he beaten the shit out of me numerous times, but I finally pressed charges against him that time."
As to why Amaris is now coming forward with her story, she wrote the following: "Now there are another set of charges against him for Domestic Violence, Assault & Battery from another woman who was his partner. Another woman who believed him and loved him, and whom he beat the shit out more than once, and who was afraid she was going to die by his hand. I remember that feeling all too well."

Color Out of Space was released in 2019. It was both directed and co-written by Stanley and based on a H.P. Lovecraft short story. The film starred Nicolas Cage, Joely Richardson, Elliot Knight, Madeleine Arthur, Q'orianka Kilcher and Tommy Chong. Its soundtrack was done by Canadian Colin Stetson.
The South African director had planned to make it the first of a trilogy of films based on Lovecraft stories.
