The year kicked off with one of Netflix's best series yet in Cheer, and fans were clamouring to see what happened next with Monica Aldama and her ragtag team of cheerleaders at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX. Unfortunately, however, the show's second season has been cancelled due to the coronavirus

As anyone who watched Season 1 will know, the show is built around the lead-up to the annual National Cheerleading Championship in Daytona, FL. Unfortunately, the competition has now been cancelled, and with it Season 2 of Cheer.

Speaking to TMZ, Aldama expressed that she was devastated by the news.

"This decision was inevitable as things have progressed and our country is in uncertain times," she said. "My heart, however, is breaking for the lost memories and the lost time with my beautiful team. I was not ready to say goodbye so quickly.... I was not mentally prepared for the team to turn in uniforms, pack their things and leave town."

Aldama added that the team's routine was "so beautiful," saying, "For the first time in my life I had no control and my life has been a roller coaster over the past week. What I do know is that we will be back better than ever!!!"
