Henry Cavill has been rumoured to be attached to Chad Stahelski's Highlander reboot over at Lionsgate since last year, but the actor's involvement in the project has so far remained unconfirmed. However, the John Wick director is keeping his eye on the prize, and he seems pretty confident that he'll get what he wants in the end.

In a recent interview with Collider, Stahelski explained that the Highlander team are "closer than we've ever been" to bringing the '80s-born franchise back to life with Cavill on board, even in the face of the actor's challenging schedule:

We're in the process of tweaking right now. I think we know what we want. More importantly than anything, we know what we want to make. It's in the creatives. We know what we're trying to make. It's just a matter of getting it to the point where we feel, "Okay, this is it. Let's go." But we're closer than we've ever been, so that's good.

The director continues to put Cavill forth as "one of [his] big choices" for the role. He explained, "It's not just about muscles and brooding. I think he's got an incredible range and I think he'd bring something very special. And his enthusiasm has been amazing in it."

Cavill, whose roles in The Witcher, Enola Holmes 2, Argylle and more make him rather difficult to pin down, has yet to respond publicly to the matter.

Alongside Stahelski, Neal H. Moritz, Josh Davis and David Leitch are serving as producers on the forthcoming reboot. Previously, Peter Davis — who helped produce the original 1986 film — was also attached to the project. Sadly, Davis passed away earlier this year before he could participate.
