Ben Affleck Changes His Mind Again, Decides Not to Direct Standalone Batman Movie

To put it nicely, Ben Affleck is at a very interesting point in his career. He's appeared as Batman in two of 2016's most hated films (Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad), while recent works like Live by Night have not lived up to box office expectations. While he's still planning to suit up for The Batman, he's changed his mind about directing the project yet again.

To get you back up to speed, Affleck has been flip-flopping on The Batman "not a set thing." Then, he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to begrudgingly admit that he was directing the project. Affleck's apparently done some soul-searching in the weeks since then, because he's just stepped down from helming the project.

"There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions," Affleck said in a statement. "Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world."

Here's hoping they can find a solid director to steer the DC Comics movies in the right direction. Before then, Affleck will appear as Batman once more in the forthcoming Justice League movie.
