Mira Furlan — an actress best known for her roles in Babylon 5 and Lost — has died. Her passing was announced late last night, revealing she passed away on January 20. Furlan was 65.
News of Furlan's death came via her official Twitter account and was quickly confirmed by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. And while no cause of death has been revealed, Straczynski wrote, "We've known for some time now that Mira's health was failing."
Straczynski added: "It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had gone down the road where we cannot reach her. Mira was a good and kind woman, a stunningly talented performer and a friend to everyone in the cast and crew of Babylon 5, and we are all devastated by the news."
Born in the Croatian capital Zagreb in 1955, Furlan played the role of Minbari Ambassador Delenn on Babylon 5, as well as Danielle Rousseau on Lost. In more recent years, she made various TV appearances on shows such as NCIS, as well as appeared in art house films such as 2013's The Abandoned, which won her the best actress award at the 2013 Balkan New Film Festival.
Previous to her to move to America, Furlan worked in theatre and TV in the former Yugoslavia. During this earlier period of her career, she starred in multiple plays, TV series and films, including Emir Kusturica's Palm d'Or-winning and Oscar-nominated 1985 film When Father Was Away on Business.
