The seventh annual National Canadian Film Day is on the schedule for April 22, and while it may not exactly go ahead as originally planned thanks to the coronavirus, a new version of the celebration is taking place.

At the centre of the celebration will be CanFilmDay Live, a livestream taking place on YouTube and at canfilmday.ca. The interactive broadcast will take place from 6 p.m. ET until 10 p.m. ET on April 22.

Guests for the livestream include Atom Egoyan, Colm Feore, Mina Shum, Philippe Falardeau, Vinay Virmani, Patricia Rozema, Emily Hampshire, Peter Keleghan, Mary Young Leckie and Don McKellar.

"We believe that Canadians are hungry for an opportunity to be part of something larger, and especially something Canadian," the organization said in a statement. "It's a chance to come together and give each other a big virtual hug. We've been thrilled by the warm response our plans have received from filmmakers and community partners alike."

The idea is to watch a Canadian film, then join in on the conversation on the National Canadian Film Day livestream.
