'Ace Ventura' Is Reportedly Getting a Sequel from the Writers of 'Sonic the Hedgehog'

There are almost a million things about Sonic the Hedgehog that shouldn't have worked but somehow did. Among them is Jim Carrey, who offered up a classically maniacal performance as Dr. Robotnik. Here's hoping that magic continues, because the Sonic writers are now reportedly working on a third Ace Ventura movie.

Speaking with Park Circus, the production company Morgan Creek, who own the rights to the '90s Carrey character, explained that the movie is coming back. "During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories," they said. "Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion-picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers."

They also hinted at some other titles that are currently in the works for reinvention, some of which have already been announced and some which haven't. "The Morgan Creek film library has become a highly sought-after launch-pad for television, streaming, publishing and music," they said. "Titles such as Ace Ventura, Major League, Young Guns, Dead Ringers, Diabolique and Nightbreed are a few examples of multi-platform projects on the fast-track for reinvention."

A third Ace Ventura film has been teased for years but never crystallized, meaning it's hard to know whether or not this will actually happen. Still, with the Sonic team and Amazon on board, it seems like this is a lot more than a rumour.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 officially started production this week.
