'A Star Is Born' Cinematographer Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Paramedics and Police in Poland
Matthew Libatique has been charged with assaulting public officials and faces up to three years in prison
Published Nov 14, 2018Cinematographer Matthew Libatique has quite a few accomplishments under his belt, ranging from Darren Aronofsky's The Black Swan through to this year's Bradley Cooper-directed remake of A Star Is Born. Unfortunately, his name has made the news for less savoury reasons after he was arrested for allegedly attacking a paramedic in Poland.
Libatique was an honorary guest at the Camerimage film festival in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Early Tuesday morning (November 13), medical officials were called to his attention after he had been seen staggering.
Krzysztof Wisniewski, an emergency official, told Polish broadcaster TVN24 that Libatique went on to attack the officials, the Associated Press reports. "The patient suddenly became aggressive toward medical rescuers, used offensive words and hit the head of the emergency medical team," he said.
A paramedic reportedly broke a tooth in the scuffle. From there, police were called to the scene. Bydgoszcz police spokeswoman Monika Chlebicz told the Associated Press that Libatique went on to attack the police officers as well.
Libatique reportedly appeared extremely intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with assaulting public officials. The offence is punishable by a prison sentence of up to three years under Polish law.
