Gifted Canadian comedian Sara Hennessey has been elevating her standup with every show and she was captured in fine form on her latest, excellent album, They Know Too Much. It's a spirited document that shows off her infectious charm, dynamic chops as a performer, and sharp, witty observational perspective.

Now based in Brooklyn, Hennessey recorded this before a lively audience in her Toronto hometown, and she's totally comfortable from the get go. It helps that she's quick to win over anyone with her positive attitude and playful way of engaging with gender dynamics and dating conventions. She is never afraid to explore absurd ideas like having a life goal to visit all of the Great Lakes or heating up pizza in a toaster.

Unlike some storytelling comedians who keep something of a distance between themselves and their audience, there's a sense that with each joke, Hennessey is telling us more and more about herself and we're getting to know her true, if hyper-silly, self. As the album's title implies, maybe her audience knows a little too much about her but with Sara Hennessey, any over-sharing feels generous and fun.
