Sacha Baron Cohen to Star in 'Klown' Remake

Danish comedy duo Frank Hvam and Casper Christiansen have created a true cult classic with their television series turned movie franchise Klovn (released in North America as Klown). Now, it looks like the project will be rebooted by one Sacha Baron Cohen.

Klown was initially being primed for a North American remake starring Danny McBride and directed by Todd Phillips. According to Screen Daily, however, the project has fallen into Cohen's hands.

Klown will be produced by Annapurna's Megan Ellison, and will follow a similar storyline to the first Klown film. Cohen will play a man who, in an attempt to prove his fatherhood merit, kidnaps his girlfriend's underage nephew and brings him on a debauched camping trip.

Hvam and Christiansen were previously developing a comedy called The Lesbian with Cohen. The film was based on the real-life story of a Hong Kong billionaire who offered a $65 million reward to anyone that could turn his daughter straight. The status of that project remains unclear.
