Dave Chappelle Is Being Sued by the Man Who Threw a Banana Peel at Him

A man who infamously threw a banana peel at Dave Chappelle is now suing the comedian and a man thought to be his bodyguard. Yes, you read that right — the banana peel thrower is suing Chappelle, not the other way around.

The lawsuit stems from an incident in 2015, now commonly dubbed "Bananagate," when Christian Englander threw a banana peel at Chappelle during his show in Santa Fe, NM. The suit claims the presumed bodyguard struck Englander twice as he was being restrained, saying the bodyguard did so under the "clear direction of defendant Chappelle," the Associated Press reports.

Englander, 33, claims that since the beat-down he has suffered various damages, including medical expenses, as well as physical and emotion pain and suffering.

Englander, who is white, said he had no racial motivation when he threw the banana peel at Chappelle, who is black, but claimed he was angry about something the comedian said at the show.

After the incident, Englander faced charges of battery and disturbing the peace. However, Chappelle was unwilling to participate in actively pursuing the charges, which were ultimately dropped.

Neither Chappelle nor his team has addressed the new lawsuit as of press time.
