Danny Brown Says He Got Dave Chappelle "Stoned to the Gills" Before Disastrous Detroit Show

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Mar 28, 2017

Back in 2015, Dave Chappelle made headlines after being booed and heckled for slurring his words and appearing intoxicated during a comeback tour stop in Detroit. After Chappelle addressed the performance in one of his new Netflix specials, rapper Danny Brown has claimed responsibility for the comedian's state.

"I don't know if you ever saw on TMZ, the big headline: Dave Chappelle drunk on stage in Detroit," the comedian recalled in opening first special The Age of Spin. "I wasn't drunk. I had smoked some reefer with some rappers. I don't know if you know anything about hanging out with rappers, but their weed is very strong — stronger than what I was accustomed to."

On Monday (March 27), Detroit MC Danny Brown then took to Instagram to explain himself after a Twitter user posed the question of whether the rapper Chappelle was referring to was indeed Brown.

"Haven't seen Dave new special but heard he gotta bit about that night I got him stoned to the gills," he wrote. "momma I made it!!!"
