'Blues Brothers' Animated Series in Development from 'Bob's Burgers' Studio Bento Box

Dan Aykroyd has managed to maintain interest in the Blues Brothers — the musical comedy duo he formed with the late John Belushi on SNL in 1976 — for decades. Just last year, he announced plans for a new Blues Brothers record label. Up next, the characters are gearing up for an animated series.

The show is simply called The Blues Brothers, and its being described as a primetime animated series geared toward young adults. The project is being produced by Bento Box Entertainment, which is the same studio that brought us Bob's Burgers. (They really love alliteration with the letter B, it seems.)

The Blues Brothers cartoon is being produced by Aykroyd alongside John Belushi's widow Judy Belushi and SNL alum Anne Beats.

According to a pitch reported by Deadline, "music will be a main character in the series" as the pair tour America. Each episode will be soundtracked with new material as well as staples of soul, R&B and rock 'n' roll.

"The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America and utilizing all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement – and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich," Aykroyd said in a statement.

The Blues Brothers is currently being shopped to television networks.
