We already knew that LCD Soundsystem had some sort of box set on the way on Record Store Day (April 19), and the defunct dance rock outfit have shared the details of the planned vinyl collection.
It's dubbed The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden, and as the title indicates, it features the band's entire farewell concert from New York on April 2, 2011. The show was close to four hours long, which is why it had to be split over five LPs.
A press release reads, "Produced and mixed by LCD founder and frontman James Murphy, The Long Goodbye is the ultimate audio document of LCD Soundsystem's now legendary final show. The album's exclusive mix brings new life to every note of music played during the epic MSG show."
After Record Store Day, the set will receive a wide release on May 20. There will also be a digital version. Big Shot reports that it will arrive through Warner Bros.
This follows the 2012 concert documentary Shut Up and Play the Hits, which was derived from the same concert. "I mixed it significantly differently than the film, because the film is mixed for your eye and the record is mixed for your ears," Murphy said last year. "The film is mixed digitally, because you have to watch it in a theatre and make little adjustments all through for a four-hour film, whereas the record is just mixed analog to tape, the way I normally do. But it took forever, because I'm not really on a label anymore."
The hefty tracklist is below.
