Bayonets!!!
To The Point!

By Josiah Hughes

Edmonton, AB post-hardcore mob the Wolfnote were a beloved band whose demise felt too early, as so many had yet to experience their forward-thinking approach to punk rock. Fortunately, the band's members have birthed two excellent projects: minimal punk duo the Famines, and Bayonets!!!, whose debut full-length has just been released on grape-scented cassette and as a digital download. Boasting 11 tracks in just over eight minutes, the album is comprised of frantic bursts of guitar-heavy post-punk and dance-y hardcore complete with super-fun call-and-response vocals. While it sounds gimmicky it's not. Recorded with superbly clear production, the album boasts some extremely technical musicianship and forward-thinking songwriting without any needless repetition. Highly recommended. (Bart)

In only a year, San Diego's Nathan Williams has gone from an unknown messing around with his Tascam in his parents' garage to a DIY sensation fawned over by both the indie and mainstream press. But a mere four months after releasing his self-titled debut, Williams returns with album number two, the ...Read More
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love
Taking their love of song suites (The Tain, "Medley" from The Crane Wife) to the next level, Colin Meloy and his merry minstrels have crafted an album-length narrative full of forest queens, shape-changing creatures and star-crossed lovers. Touchstones from the darker heart of the '60s ...Read More
Jeremy Jay - Slow Dance
In a way, it was hard not to feel a little let down by Jeremy Jay's A Place Where We Could Go. Sure, his debut LP had its moments but compared to the promise of this L.A. songwriter's early singles, it felt more like a stumble than a gallop out of the gates. Well, a year has passed and Jay is ...Read More
Joel Plaskett - Three
Never short on ambition, Halifax, NS's Joel Plaskett has curiously released one of the most focused records of his catalogue by sprawling songs over a three-record set. To his great credit, once Plaskett is inspired by a concept, idea or turn of phrase, he commits completely, and the results are oft ...Read More

Frazey Ford's soulful voice has always been a highlight of the Be Good Tanyas. For her solo debut, she quiets the twang just enough to drench her vocal quaver in warm tones of soul, gospel and R&B. Twenty years in the making, Obadiah fulfils Ford's long-cherished vision of crafting songs that... Full Review
