Published Jul 02, 2010Though she was underwhelming at NXNE earlier this month, there's no denying the seductive charm of nu-goth singer Zola Jesus. Following her recent Stridulum EP, the much-hyped songstress has now teamed with a new project called LA Vampires for a collaborative effort.
LA Vampires is the latest project from the equally prolific Amanda Brown, who doubles as an active member of Pocahaunted. Dubbed a "mini album," the duo have combined styles for some new haunted melodies. According to Boomkat's product review, the record "rumbles into motion with those familiarly smudged out, indecipherable vocals and evaporating drum machines but there's a heavy bass groove and some ghoulish melodic developments set to balance out any of the more noxiously no-fi elements."
LA Vampires & Zola Jesus was released earlier this week (June 29) on the venerable noise imprint Not Not Fun. Samples can be heard here, while the LP can be ordered here. In addition to the new disc, fans can catch Zola Jesus on tour all summer, including a Montreal appearance with the XX.
