Zero Crossing

My Kind of Funk

BY Romina WendellPublished Jul 1, 2006

Bavarian born Andreas Angerer’s (aka Zero Crossing) serves up new school beats, tech-y breaks inspired by funk-defined disco with hip-hop roots and rough and ready grooves flavoured with lots of electro, house and hip-hop elements on My Kind Of Funk. There are lots of keyboards and strings to accompany all the squelching bass as well as soulful samples and vocals. The strongest tracks though are the simplest such as the standard breaks fare "Loverboy” and "Darkness” and the hip-hop rooted "Da Game Is On" featuring Kool. What is refreshing is for all its influences things are never overdone nor overly produced, leaving room for an almost minimal but soulful kind of funk.
