Techno wizard Speedy J has laced his beats with the odd dose of noise in the past, but on the eponymous debut LP from Zeitgeber (his collaborative project with Stroboscopic Artefacts label boss Lucy), nearly all evidence of a beat has been stripped from the music. What remains is sheer atmosphere: a forward-looking soundscape that's more akin to the transcendental output from the less-familiar Lucy than the steady rhythms from veteran Speedy J. Boundaries have been shattered, which is audible on nearly every brooding, detritus-strewn, bordering-on-industrial sonic assemblage found on this release. It appears that a similar phenomenon to what's happening in the global noise underground is at play here, only in reverse. Noise is getting its dance on, while the techno heads are embracing the chaos. How the average listener is supposed to navigate this sonic minefield is anyone's guess.
