Saskatchewan roots figure Zachary Lucky is just about ready to release his next Canadiana-soaked collection, Everywhere a Man Can Be. But before the album hits retailers October 7 via Wroxton Records/Fontana North, you can sample all of its sounds via an exclusive stream through Exclaim!
A press release explains that Lucky's latest was crafted in response to 2013's The Ballad of Losing You. While that album was a deeply personal affair, Everywhere a Man Can Be was inspired by the people and places the songwriter came across while on the road.
"I toured that record heavily for about three years, and honestly, by the end it became tiring playing those songs night after night," Lucky explained in a statement. "So being able to write a new batch of songs based on these experiences I was having on the road felt really good."
Tracked at Toronto's Candle Recording facility alongside musicians like drummer Taylor Knox, pianist Dan Edmonds (Harlan Pepper), bassist Darcy Yates (Flash Lightnin', Bahamas) and fiddler Rosalyn Dennett, the collection is said to mix together the sound of Canadian icon Gordon Lightfoot and alt-country act Son Volt.
Below, you can hear Lucky's slightly scratchy Prairies baritone work itself over pieces like low-key banjo plucker "Sell All You Have," melancholy "Can't Say Why," and the traditional, pedal steel-manned "Standin' in the Rain."
