Zachary Gray & Para Palabras

Containment EP

After contributing tracks to last year's terrific Forest City Series Vol. 1 compilation, Zachary Gray and Para Palabras debut new material on this brief but rewarding split EP. With each artist contributing three new tracks, Containment demonstrates just how forward-thinking London, Ontario's electronic music scene has become. Now based out of Toronto, Zachary Gray melds textural, ambient soundscapes with early British IDM structures on his tracks "Liberia," "You're a Real Class Act" and "The Years."

London's Para Palabras, occupying the EP's second half, leans towards more modern R&B and dubstep, allowing his cuts, "1 AM," "Freezing" and "Borracho" to pop and lock through epic drum sounds, bent-wave synths and haunted voice samples. Rounding out the EP, Gray and Palabras remix each other's work; Gray's "The Years" and Palabras' "Freezing" aren't reinvented here as much as they are enhanced. A great introduction to two up-and-coming artists, Containment encourages repeat spins.
