Young Heart Attack

Mouthful of Love

BY Stuart GreenPublished Jun 1, 2004

Channelling trans-Atlantic classic rock and metal influences from Queen and the Who to MC5 and Motörhead, Austin's Young Heart Attack takes riff-rock to a new level with the inclusion of a female vocalist making them equal parts Nazareth and Nashville Pussy. Jennifer Stephens’ Robert Plant sound-alike wail is the perfect compliment to Chris Hodge's metallic scream and shows she has the right to part of the testosterone-fuelled trash rock renaissance even if she is missing the anatomical parts to make that physically possible. Adding to this band's new take on an old sound is the use of keyboards to punctuate the scorching guitar and throbbing backbeats.
