Young Guv & the Scuzz "Not in It for the Good Time"

Young Guv & the Scuzz "Not in It for the Good Time"
A couple of months back, we learned that Fucked Up guitarist Ben Cook's long-running Young Governor project had morphed into Young Guv & the Scuzz for an upcoming twelve-inch, A Love Too Strong. Previously unveiled number "Heal Over Time" was a jangly slice of garage pop, but the next preview track, "Not in It for the Good Time" veers the band into country-western territory.

As you can hear in the stream below, the track finds Young Guv & the Scuzz tackling a rail-riding rhythm with banjos and six-strings a plenty. Oddly, there's a saxophone in the mix somewhere. The tear-in-your-beer vocal melodies play glossier than if the outfit were huddled around a broken microphone at some backwoods dive bar, but we'll chock that up to this being the group's first recording session at a "legit studio."

As previously reported, A Love Too Strong arrives July 31 through Southpaw Records.
