Young Galaxy Return With New Album, Tour Dates

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Mar 3, 2009

It's been a while since we've heard anything from Montreal's Young Galaxy. In fact, the last newsworthy bit of activity we had from these shoegazing indie rockers was when they released their self-titled debut full-length, and that was back in 2007. Well, the band have finally given us the heads-up that they'll get their show back on the road this year, announcing the foursome have readied both a new album and some upcoming North American tour dates.

As for the record, Young Galaxy have given their sophomore effort the title Invisible Republic and will release it sometime later this year, presumably on their old label home of Arts & Crafts. The band haven't provided any more details than that, but they have given us a taste of the LP via the song "Long Live the Fallen World," which currently can be downloaded over at Young Galaxy's website.

Young Galaxy will also preview new material from Invisible Republic on a short string of dates in the U.S. and Canada this month. Those kick off March 4 in New York and find Young Galaxy hitting up such cities as Ottawa and Toronto, as well as this year's SXSW.

More details on Invisible Republic are expected to come shortly, but for now, here are the group's upcoming dates:

3/4 New York, NY - Piano's
3/6 Brooklyn, NY - Music Hall of Williamsburg
3/13 Ottawa, ON - Babylon *
3/14 Toronto, ON - Horseshoe Tavern (CMW Showcase)
3/15 Newport, KY - Southgate House
3/18 Denton, TX - Dan's Silverleaf
3/19 Austin, TX - Buffalo Billiards (SXSW Showcase)
3/20 Austin, TX - Radio Room (Onion/Canvas Media party)
