A few days ago, it was revealed that Iggy Azalea had submitted a letter of recommendation on behalf of Tory Lanez prior to his 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020.
Because the legal document is public record, reporter Meghann Cuniff — who, along with her all-business bob, has become something of a folk hero through her coverage of the trial — was able to post Azalea's full letter to her blog Legal Affairs and Trials with Meghann Cuniff. In the letter, Azalea states that Lanez is not an abuser, adding that she herself is a victim of abuse and "would not write to you on behalf of an abuser."
"I deeply appreciate the person he is and have never witnessed him loose [sic] his temper or raise his voice at a woman," she writes. "He's always been incredibly respectful of me and I refuse to believe that he would do anything in malice especially to a woman."
Azalea opens the letter with a rundown of her accomplishments, writing that she has been "a successful musician for the last decade" and has sold "over 65 million records" with "number 1 hits on the billboard hot 100," that have "broken records previously held by 'The Beatles.'"
She contrasts her success to that of presiding Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Herriford, writing, "Like yourself, I'm great at what I do and am well respected by my peers." She then goes on to request leniency in Herriford's sentencing of Lanez, asking for a sentence that would be "transformational" and not "life destroying" and asks that Lanez not be deported following his time served.
In a since-deleted tweet, Azalea wrote that she was unaware that her letter could be made public, writing that she "never intended to publicly comment."
