Tribute To

BY Anupa MistryPublished Nov 17, 2009

On his first solo record, Tribute To, My Morning Jacket front-man Jim James pays his respects to former Beatle George Harrison. The hushed, earnest six-track selection is an appropriate nod to one of music's most unassuming icons. James largely avoids the more obvious choices from Harrison's canon (aside from the beautifully sombre "My Sweet Lord" and the barebones "Love You To"), choosing instead to pick works from solo output All Things Must Pass. It might be more than slightly delayed ― Tribute To was recorded in late 2001, shortly after Harrison's death ― but the conviction with which James sings and plays renders the songs timeless, just like the Beatle himself.
