Yesan Damen Chronos/Kairos

Based on the band and album name, it’s pretty tough to figure out just what Yesan Damen are all about. It turns out they are a Seattle band whose low key indie pop songs are quite pleasant but not nearly as enigmatic as one might initially think. Chronos/Kairos is their second album and finds the band feeling much more playful than on their somewhat sombre debut. Songwriter Daniel Kwak has assembled a diverse group of friends to help add some more variety to the primarily jangle-y songs. And for the most part, he succeeds, although the songs do begin to blend together by the end, and it looks like he needs to find a few new voices for album number three. It isn’t an unpleasant listen by any means, but it will be completely forgotten by year’s end. Probably even sooner. (New Wine)
