Published Jun 21, 2007Legendary Japanese synth pop envelope pushers Yellow Magic Orchesta (YMO) have announced they will reunite for Live Earth in Kyoto on July 7.
Breaking up in 1984, the Live Earth reunion will mark the first time Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi and Ryuichi Sakamoto have worked together under the name of YMO since 1993's one-off collaboration Technodon. No word has been given yet as to whether this will lead to anything further.
Launched to help fight and raise awareness about the effects of global warming, Live Earth will begin in Sydney, Australia on July 7, 2007 and continue across all seven continents with two shows in Japan, as well as concerts in China, South Africa, the UK, Germany, Turkey, Brazil and the U.S.
Other artists scheduled to perform include Beastie Boys, Metallica, Bloc Party, Foo Fighters, Madonna, Spinal Tap (!) and a newly reformed Genesis.
