Years

Notably void of the BSS Presents tag, the debut solo effort of (somewhat) recent scenester inductee Ohad Benchetrit tips his sonic hand to his long roots as a principle member of Canadian art rock legends Do Make Say Think. Ohad's maiden voyage outside of a large collective setting confirms his influence on the experiments in digital manipulation that have peppered DMST's sound in the past. Years, the moniker of the project and album, take this love of sonic surgery to the next level. "Are You Unloved?" grafts stuttering glitch repeats to a simple guitar pattern, enhancing the futuristic bombast without losing the acoustic flavour of the instrument. Subtle to overt tweaks are interlaced with rich folk instrumentals, ambiguous passages of ambient audio fog and thundering post-rock explosions alike. Years doesn't quite cohere into a transcendent full-album statement but Benchetrit's accumulated musical wisdom will be inspiring adventuresome listeners for years.
