Yeah Yeah Yeahs

"Despair" (video)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs bring their Mosquito tune "Despair" to new heights, literally, in a video shot atop New York's Empire State Building.

Directed by longtime video collaborator Patrick Daughters (who also helmed clips for "Maps," "Turn Into," "Date With the Night" and "Gold Lion"), it at first finds vocalist Karen O performing an a cappella intro from the tabletop of a dive bar, to the joy of a handful of patrons. She gets together with the rest of the band to properly pump out the hopeful anthem from a platform high above the rest of the city.

"There's been a lot of career highs and lows over the years of being in a band, but in the end, how many can say they shot a video on the top of the Empire State Building? We win," Karen O said in a statement of the shoot, which was apparently her first ever visit to the tourist landmark. "Move out the way, King Kong, Yeah Yeah Yeahs are gonna get real with you up in this piece!"
