The late, great J Dilla hasn't been with us since 2006, but his prolific output and lasting influence means that his music lives on. We were reminded of that fact when Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) stopped by Paris's Radio Nova to debut a track called "Sunshine Screwface," which was produced by Dilla.
The song finds the actor/hip-hop star rapping live in studio and dropping some rhymes for the folks gathered around the table. And while his flow is stellar, what really makes this a winner is the backing track, which pairs soul-tinged guitar samples with blaring horns and a patchwork of toe-tapping beats.
