"I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler" (lyric video)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 14, 2015

YACHT are evidently unimpressed with our modern world, since their new album is called I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler, and they've just shared a lyric video for the title track.

With lyrics that make reference to everything from crowdsourcing to firearms to smartphone scrolling, the song is an thumping electro-pop banger. The blippy, computerized groove is fleshed out with lush disco strings and even a brief, reggae-flavoured instrumental break. Meanwhile, the accompanying visuals show the lyrics popping up colourfully against a backdrop of the album cover. Check it out below.

Most of I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler was produced by YACHT founder Jona Bechtolt along with longtime collaborator Rob Kieswetter, with super-producer Jacknife Lee (R.E.M., U2, Weezer) pitching in throughout and Justin Meldal-Johnsen (M83, Tegan and Sara) specifically working on the title track. Jherek Bischoff arranged the strings on this song.

I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler will be out on October 16 through Downtown Records.
