The XX's Jamie Smith Reveals Release Details for Gil Scott-Heron Remix Record

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Nov 29, 2010

Earlier this year, Gil Scott-Heron returned after a 17-year absence with the mind-blowing I'm New Here, an experimental electronic-leaning set that strayed from his jazz funk past. Thankfully, we won't have to wait another decade and a half for the musician's next album: his upcoming remix album, headed by XX member Jamie Smith, now has a release date.

Titled We're New Here, the album is set to be released on February 22 and presents 13 of Scott-Heron's latest cuts as re-imagined by the icy English beatsmith. Smith's take on "New York Is Killing Me," which can be seen below, is a chilly romp of cut-up vocal samples, minor electronic oscillations and a devastatingly downtempo snap beat.

The record will come courtesy of XL/Young Turks. It will be available digitally, as well as on CD and LP. A deluxe box set of We're New Here will included a copy of the album on pink vinyl, an instrumental version on green wax, CD copies of both versions and a couple of limited-edition prints.

2. "Home"
