The Triumph

BY Max DeneauPublished Jan 13, 2009

xDeathstarx are Christian metalcore. Anyone still reading? While the necessity of this reissue is a matter of debate, as it's barely out-of-print and ultimately not all that important a release, The Triumph is a solid debut effort that planted the seeds that were reaped to great effect on their follow-up, We Are the Threat. If you're into this kind of thing, you will find this to be palatable and definitely aggressive as fuck, as the group features four full-time vocalists that are somewhat discernable from each other. Musically, the group ply their muscle-bound wares more effectively than most, synthesizing elements of Martyr A.D. and Hatebreed with unexceptional, mildly entertaining metallic influences. The production on this is horrendous, even remastered, which will definitely be a deal breaker for pickier listeners. When push comes to shove, their aforementioned sophomore effort destroys this and is worthier of your hard-earned dollar.
