Wrath Of The Weak

Alogon

Proving it possible to defy the formula of the one-man black/doom genre, Wrath of the Weak are a cut above many of their more predictable contemporaries. With repetition definitely a focus, main man Jordan Buck evokes the furious sociopathic nature of Forest Poetry-era Ildjarn while sticking to tempos and melodic phrasing more akin to Xasthur or early Burzum. On top of this already compelling combination of elements, he layers claustrophobic feedback and ethereal synthesisers with restraint and tasteful, dynamic arrangements. The album never bores — the mark of superior songwriting in a genre too often plagued by tepid, derivative offerings. The production is expectedly murky but effective. This is yet another atmospheric gem from Profound Lore, and an excellent sophomore outing.
