An immense and complex, nearly arabesque in stature and intricacy, slab of textured hum, noisy shrapnel and subdued melodies, Phone About to Ring is Providence, RI resident Scott Reber's most compelling work to date. Originally issued in a miniscule run by his Three Songs of Lenin imprint, it was logically picked up for reissue by the ultra-shrewd Type imprint. Remastered by Reber, the sheer depth of the original has been ratcheted up such that the two album-side-length pieces unfold with utmost fervency, literally forcing themselves into the listener's ears. A veteran of the Rhode Island noise scene, as demonstrated by his insanely long roster of recording aliases and collaborative projects, Reber's prolificacy is certainly not to be questioned. Phone About to Ring serves as a more-than-adequate example of the level of quality he can achieve in his work; it's a high-impact statement from a purveyor of transcendent sound.
