The Wooden Sky

"Saturday Night" (video)

The Wooden Sky have released a video for their Let's Be Ready song "Saturday Night," and it presents a rather bleak vision of what Saturday night looks like.

The clip begins with a Russian woman speaking to an uncomprehending man while knocking back beers at a mostly empty bar. The woman then cranks up the Wooden Sky's rootsy, rocking tune while the man's night takes a violent turn when he goes on a smoke break. Luckily, it's nothing that can't be solved with a slow dance.

Director Scott Cudmore said this in a statement:

I wanted to do something a little bit more in the vein of a short film than of a traditional music video with this. I was interested in how a person reacts to a song and that is kind of what the video is about on one level…you can get lost in it and it's a release and a bit of an escape and you can get carried away by music. Music videos are usually a kind of visual interpretation of the song and if I had done that here then this video would probably have a similar anthemic, forward momentum in the images, but I wanted to go against that and just let the characters interpret the song rather than the editing and the images. I wanted to approach the lyrics directly with this video. I didn't want it to tell anybody how to feel about these people, I just wanted them to exist and let the song fill in the blanks.
