Wolfgang Voigt Announces New Kafka-Themed Project

Minimal techno master Wolfgang Voigt has been extra prolific since resurrecting his Profan imprint early last year. Keeping with that steady output, the Kompakt founder has announced another project for the left-of-centre label, and this time it will be themed around novelist Franz Kafka.

The series is called Kafkatrax and will manifest itself in the form of three separate hand-painted twelve-inches released over the next three months, along with one CD to be released in July. The records are limited to 199 numbered copies each.

A press release explains that all sounds on the release aside from the bass drum were created using voices from a Kafka audiobook. "The abstract overlaying and stratification of voices and word-fragments over five octavos create a psychotic-paranoid, 'Kafkaesque' atmosphere," it reads.

The first record in the Kafkatrax series will drop on May 16 and you can order a copy here. You can also sample the release's tracks below.
