Wolf Colonel

Vikings of Mint

BY Stuart GreenPublished Feb 1, 2000

Hailing from the ever-so fertile American Pacific Northwest, this Portland trio delivers 15 slices of raw, scrappy and deliberately unpolished post-punk guitar pop. Think Weezer and Guided by Voices crossed with early Jawbreaker and things will make more sense. Loosely translated that means plenty of simple pop hooks with appropriately tortured and tormented vocal lines and woo-hoo-hoo harmonies. Most of the songs are real up-tempo toe-tappers, but there are some slightly more introspective musings in the form of "Agave's Lament," "T-resistable," "The Indian Ocean" and "Uncle of France."
