Witch Prophet honoured her Ethiopian and Eritrean ancestral roots on DNA Activation earlier this year, and the Ontario-based artist has now shared a video for the album's "Tesfay."

Directed by Toronto-based filmmaker and photographer Leah Vlemmiks, the video for "Tesfay" uses movement and memory to capture both the power and empowerment of positive father-daughter relationships.

The song — featuring co-production from Sun Sun and saxophone from Karen Ng — is inspired by Witch Prophet's late grandfather, who abandoned ideas of traditional gender roles to raise five daughters as a single father in Ethiopia after the passing of her grandmother.

DNA Activation, which Exclaim! named a must-hear Canadian album earlier this year, is shortlisted for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. It follows Witch Prophet's 2018 debut The Golden Octave.
