Published Oct 09, 2012Once again, medium-crossing Irish-via-Canada imprint Wist Rec. is preparing to release some new titles in its Book Report Series, in which artists create soundtracks to classic novellas. The seventh, eight and ninth releases in the series will arrive on October 24.
With Halloween coming up fast, this time around the releases are all horror-themed. As usual, the label has packaged each novella with a 3-inch CD-R containing the accompanying score. Each one is available in a run of 100.
The newest trio of releases includes Vladimir Nabokov's Terra Incognita, which received a score courtesy of Gareth Davis & Francis-Marie Uitti. M.R. James's Canon Alberic's Scrapbook was musically adapted by David Newlyn, while Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's Jigokuhen (which translates as Hell Screen) was soundtracked by Marihiko Hara & Hideki Umezawa.
You can listen to extracts from each score below. The clips are short, but you'll discover that all of them are extremely dark and atmospheric — not exactly the kind of stuff you'll sing along to in the shower, but definitely appropriate to have on in the background while reading a horror story.
You can pre-order the three releases over at Wist Rec.'s website.
