Halifax unit Wintersleep recently announced that they would be returning to the world of indie labels for their next record, plotting to release The Great Detachment through Dine Alone this year. It's now been revealed that the album will arrive on March 4, and in addition to the artwork (pictured above), the band have shared another new track.
"Amerika" follows the previously heard and newly redone "Weighty Ghost," and premiered over at the Wall Street Journal. As the publication points out, the inspiration for the song comes from Walt Whitman's not-quite-identically-titled (but properly spelled) poem "America" and attempts to recreate the themes of hope that he conveyed.
Bolstered by buoyant vocals and ringing guitars, the track is an uplifting and patriotic-sounding tune — even if they're not quite singing about their own home and native land.
