Published Apr 15, 2015Blues-infused, Nashville-based indie rock outfit Willie and the Giant are set to drop their debut LP next week, but before it arrives, Exclaim! has got your first listen to album cut "Maureen."
Willie and the Giant was recorded at the all-analog Welcome to 1979 studio in Nashville, which perfectly captured the "saturated" sound the band were looking for. It delivers "sweltering swamp grooves, dark and lonesome Spaghetti Western tunes offset by feel-good soul-pop ditties, gorgeous dueling guitar melodies, fist-pumping no-frills American rock'n'roll, glammy '70s raveups, fiery Southern anthems and stadium-ready psychedelic blues epic."
If all of that seems a bit overwhelming, then "Maureen" is the perfect cut to ease you in to the group's sound. The tune showcases the band's soulful brand of vintage-inspired rock'n'roll, serving up blues-y guitar licks and psychedelic solos that act as a vehicle for the rich, warm vocals of frontman Will Stewart.
The band's self-titled debut arrives on April 21 via Cumberland Brothers Music, and can be pre-ordered here. For now, though, give "Maureen" a listen in the player below.
