William Tell

You Can Hold Me Down

BY Ariana RockPublished Jul 18, 2007

On his solo debut, former guitarist and back-up vocalist for acclaimed rock band Something Corporate, William Tell hasn’t strayed far from there. But even with a guest appearance by old band-mates Andrew McMahon (on piano on one track) and Brian Ireland drumming, singing back-up vocals and doing some programming, this album unfortunately doesn’t come near Something Corporate’s level. This is still a decent effort, and you can sense Tell’s heart being poured into his songs, and you want to like the poppy, sugary cuteness that permeates every track. However, the lack of depth in the lyrical content and dynamics keep it from being more.
